The City of Lakeville operates the Urban Water Conservation Program through a partnership with the Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization (VRWJPO). This program, which began in 2018, offers local Homeowners - or Townhome - Associations cost-share to improve irrigation system watering efficiency after participating in an irrigation system assessment. Since the program’s inception, the City and VRWJPO have funded irrigation assessments at over 20 City of Lakeville Associations. Associations’ only financial commitment towards the irrigation audit is a $50 fee.
The City focuses cost-share opportunities on Associations rather than SMART controller rebates for single-family homes as substantial water savings can be achieved through the implementation of water efficient irrigation practices on the expansive greenspace found within Associations. A 2020 report completed by the VRWJPO illustrates these savings, as shown in the reference below.
The application period for 2023 Association irrigation system assessments is currently closed. Check back in spring of 2024 for updates. Application forms are below for user reference.
As part of the program, the City and VRWJPO also created a Request for Proposal (RFP) for use by Association representatives. The RFP can be used as a guide for all Association leadership to garner irrigation system services that save water, cost and overall leadership effort.
